A Waldo and Wally Movie Review On...

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind(***1/2)
starring Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore, George Clooney
directed by George Clooney

WALDO: This is the big George Clooney directing debut based on the
autobiography of Chuck Barris, ringmaster of gutter humor 70's game show The
Gong Show. But that's not the story. The real story is Barris' claim that he
moonlighted as a CIA assassin. Real or not it was a fun ride.

WALLY: Yeah, I like the scene when young Chuck gets a girl to service him by
telling her his dick taste's like strawberries.

WALDO: You oughta try that one Wally.

WALLY: Yeah, by my schlong tastes like manna from heaven.

WALDO: That's what Justin Timberlake told me. Anyways, this movie features
some great visuals from desaturated pastels to dark moody shadows for
Chuck's dark periods in life. The story is pretty much told straight up, as
if he was really an assasin.

Sam Rockwell is dead on as Chuck Barris but there's definitely a sense of
detachment by the film from identifying too closely with Barris. Ultimately,
Barris lives an incredibly insecure, self-destructive lifestyle. Maybe
that's why he fits the profile for CIA assassin.

WALLY: I didn't know he also created the shows The Dating Game and Newlywed
Game as well as wrote the song Palisades Park.

WALDO: No one out there under 25 is gonna remember those shows.

WALLY: My favorite parts were the cameos. Brad Pitt and Matt Damon as
rejected Dating Game contestants, Rutger Hauer and Julia Roberts as fellow
assassins. And Drew Barrymore was great as Barris' always cheerful doormat
girlfriend.
