DEF TALENT JAMMED
FSA's Def Talent Jam celebrated it's 10th anniversary on Nov.
23 at The Palace (Florida Theater) in Gainesville. The acts
weren't as varied as in the past years but they were just
as impressive if not more so. This year featured mostly singers
and LARGE dance groups. The most notable acts were the ones
that didn't show. The 2 time defending champs, Sequence One
from UCF decided to sit out this year. USF's AFS(say that
10 times fast), who had one of the more original and
entertaining dance acts (and hottest girls) last year, didn't
field an entrant this year. What's the deal, Bulls and Knights?
The big trend this year was big elaborate dance routines.
Gone are the days of 8 person booty shaking routines. Just
about every dance group had super choreographed routines with
20-30 people on stage at once. It was amazing. It was like
watching a broadway show, probably Miss Saigon with all the
brown people. You had to see it to believe it.
Props to Atlanta and Dirty South Miami for bringing large
and loud contingents. Miami's Dirty South took home the trophy
with a super sexy complicated routine that totally blew my
mind. I've been to 9 out of 10 DTJ's and this may be the best
dance routine I've ever seen. Maybe matched only by UF's exhibition
dances this year and last. Miami practiced 3-4 times a week
for 3 months. They wanted this bad.
Extras
The lovely Camille Francisco, who's also in my short film
Lady Killer, did some funny interviews and Ken and Varick
from Tsinilas talk about the old days as they chug beers.
I also plan to include USF AFS's dance routine from 99' as
a flashback in the DVD. Jax band Cue Estey rocked the crowd
afterward. Hundreds of people bouncing and waving their arms
looked like a music video. It was surreal.
ADOBOWL MADNESS
The alumni team put together
a collection of new and old to field a competitive team that
hoped to take home the trophy. We played UCF the first game
and won 18-12, I think, behind the passing of Adriel Mercado.
Yours truly even caught a touchdown pass on a deep out.
But we lost the semifinal
game to the 3 time defending and eventual champs Filipino
World Order from UNF. But FWO is supposedly retiring after
4 straight championships so the compeition should be a little
better next yr.
Lots of bodies flying around and multiple laterals in this
tournament. I also got footage of the UF FSA Ladies playing
the Georgia Tech(or State?) Girls. The Georgia girls were
so green that the UF girls had to explain how to play between
the plays. How cute. Ofcourse my merciless cousin, Michelle
Senerpida, decides to take the opportunity to rattle off an
embarrassing, reverse field across the grain, eat my dust
, blazing 70 yard punt return for a touchdown. That's on the
video too.
Off the top of my head, the men's alumni players were me,
Ken Panginiban, Varick Rosette, Jimboy Gregorios(believe it),
Adriel Mercado, Frank Factora, Mike Almeyda, Sergio, Koo and
bunch of people who's name I forget.
Go
reserve a copy of the DVD to see an amazing show and bone
crunching football footage! DVD should be out by March and
I need to know how many to order. Only a limited number will
be made so reserve one now. The more that are reserved the
cheaper they get so don't be cheap.
Thanks! See ya next time!
P.S.- At the back page of Entertainment Weekly there's an
article about Girls Gone Wild going to 8 Seconds (formerly
Central City) in Gainesville. Was same night as DTJ. Shoulda
brought my camera there to videotape some of those bitches.
